'Virtual Library' Offered to Nebraska Schools

Virtual Learning Library Launched- Bonney Bowman reports

Teachers returning to Nebraska classrooms this month will have a new tool they can use to create multimedia lessons for students.

Governor Dave Heineman announced Wednesday that the Nebraska Virtual Library system is now online and ready to use. The library offers more than 20,000 digital resources, including video, audio and interactive programs. It's available for free to students and teachers.

The site is part of a larger, statewide educational initiative announced last year. The Nebraska Virtual Partnership was formed to serve learners from preschool through high school, emphasizing science, technology engineering and math.

The site is run by Nebraska Educational Telecommunications and paid for with membership dues. Nebraska Commissioner of Education Roger Breed says it blends content with visual images to strengthen classroom lessons.
