The new president of Doane College knows how to make an entrance.
Jacque Carter was to be inaugurated Saturday as the 12th president of the liberal arts and sciences school in Crete.
It's part of the ceremonial festivities held Friday, Carter dressed in late-19th-century clothes and rode through campus on horseback.
The display was an homage to the college's founding president, David Brainerd Perry. Perry served as Doane's president for 40 years, and his hitching post still stands on campus.
Carter succeeds Jonathan Brand, left last summer to become president of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Carter had been an administrator at the University of New England.
