Omaha Lake Returns to Normal Levels After Draining

A southwest Omaha lake that was drawn down in 2010 in an effort to eradicate an invasive species of mussels has returned to normal levels.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says Lake Zorinsky was at its normal elevation of 1110 feet on Friday. It's expected to remain at that level unless heavy rain causes the water level to rise.
The 255-acre lake was drained in late 2010 after a live zebra mussel was found at the lake. The small black-and-white-striped mollusks can clog drains and pipes, freeze up cooling systems, kill off native species and render power boats inoperable.
Drawing down the lake allowed cold temperatures to freeze and kill the mussels. The process to refill the lake began last summer.
