Kearney Cruise Night
The heat was on for cruise night in Kearney yesterday evening. High temperatures met with heavy law enforcement at the event. Kearney Police, Nebraska State Patrol, Hastings and Grand Island Police, and Buffalo Sheriff's officers helped keep the event rolling smoothly. Preliminary Kearney Police figures indicate twelve auto accidents occurred, and four D.U.I. arrests were made.
Final crime totals for the weekend event will be released by the Kearney Police Department on Monday.
"All in all, i think it went very well. The participants, the people that actually bring in the hot rod, street rods, classics to town -- they enjoy it, they like driving up and down. A little bit at night, another element comes out to play and they're not to appreciative of that, but all in all it's still a fun time," explained Cruise Night participant Nick Winchester.
A Kearney Police Department spokesperson stated that, according to preliminary information, Kearney Police gave out about 59 traffic citations to event attendees, and that assaults were down compared to last year. Kearney Police began to send all remaining classic car enthusiasts back home at about one o'clock a.m.
