Nebraska Under Freeze Warning

Posted: 3:09 AM Apr 10, 2012
Reporter: Associated Press

Fruit growers and early planters are bracing for frost as temperatures are forecast to dip below freezing in most of Iowa and parts of Nebraska.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for all but extreme southeastern Iowa and for central and eastern Nebraska into Tuesday.

Overnight lows in Iowa could fall into the 20s in both states.

Forecasters say Canadian high pressure moving into the region is bringing clear skies and colder temperatures.

The freeze warning comes after a March that was the warmest on record for the central U.S.

Fruit growers say blossoms are about a month early this year.

Experts say everything from vineyards to strawberry patches to orchards are at risk where temperatures drop into the 20s.
