Reporter: Associated Press

The National Weather Service says Fabio has become a hurricane in the Pacific, though it poses no threats to land.

Fabio has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and is 515 miles south of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. It is moving west-northwest at 10 mph and is expected to stay on this course.

Fabio is a Category 1 hurricane and is the season's fifth hurricane. Some additional strengthening is expected over the next day or so.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Emilia, farther out in the Pacific, continues to weaken.

Once a hurricane, Emilia now has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is 1240 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. It is moving west at 15 mph. It could dissipate by Sunday.
