I am a retired school food service manager. This program is probably one of those under government scrutiny that should be supported and embraced!!!! The food choices are guidelines implemented by the feds. I know Edith Zumwalt and I am sure she would gladly welcome you and your concerns to her world of school nutrition. Just extend her the courtesy and allow her to educate you on exactally what the school lunch is about. Maybe those who criticize whould have a HUGH eye opener.

Instead of analyzing the school lunch, somebody should investigate the short period of time kids have to eat lunch. Kids don't have time to eat. They are given less than 20 minutes including the time it takes to go through the line. Not a healthy way to have lunch.

I think that they should also serve vit D milk. The choc milk gives a better taste to the 2% milk.

The scrutiny on the meals is important, but I also think it is important to look at the activity level of the children to help prevent obsesity. They are shortening and trying to eliminate recess time, when I think they should be encouraging children to be active as well as learning.

As reported by other news programs, there are no standards in claiming that a food item is whole grain. I find LPS to be misleading in their claims that they are offering healthier choices. My child attends one of the local elementary schools and I have tried some of the food being served. It is usually served lukewarm and is extremely unappetizing. Though LPS officials may claim that more food is being eaten than is being thrown away, I can verify that it is not. To truly give an accurate report, try eating in one of the elementary's lunch rooms for a week. If more parents were to try this, they would end up sending their child a lunch in a lunchbox, as I have ended up doing.

I so disgree with all of this pushing of grain products.Kids should be a choice. What is wrong with all of this obesty starts at home with parents buying all these games and etc to play just to get them out of the way and it is called "baby-sitters or day-care" so they don't have to bother with them.Push these kids outside to play and parents get out there yourself and run and do things with them and get rid of some of your extra lbs and make it a family thing! You would see a huge change in the whole family.Enjoy every minute with them and you will never carry regrets that you all weren't out there.

School lunches might be getting a make over but giving these kids hot dog with a bun and corn will not do it for weight. You still have to cut the sugar and choc. milk has tons of grams of sugar as does wheat bread and those dreadful tacos you feed our kids. give them less sugar.

so who are these so called self appointed experts? And ya they even sent out their food patrols to schools and decide if the lunch you brought from home is good enough. Sounds much like parents have no say in what their children eat anymore. You may call it experts but there is a much more enlightening name and it's not very pretty. another name would be government interference into something of you own choice. I believe that is against our constitution in every way

Forget the whole wheat buns!! I have been in the lunch room once a week and those buns are dry and always in the trash can. They should just do away with the bread and do finger foods. It is a shame what does in up in the trash but even I throw the bun away.

It is not very patriotic to criticise trickle down economics. Gas will soon be 4 dollars and maybe 4.35 this year in Lincoln. Wear it proudly. You voted for it. Ketchup.
