University of Nebraska-Lincoln officials say a Chinese citizen who had been teaching at the Nebraska school has been detained by Chinese authorities.
UNL officials say Weixing Li is an assistant business professor who had accompanied students on a study-abroad trip. The students last saw him earlier this month, after the four-week program ended.
UNL officials have talked to Li's relatives, who say Li remains in Chinese custody.
University spokeswoman Kelly Bartling said that none of the students was with Li when he was detained.
Because Li is a Chinese citizen, local authorities aren't required to tell foreign embassies about his detention.
Bartling said Monday that Li has been teaching at UNL since 2003.
