LPD Investigating Stolen Money- Chad Silber Reports

An ordinary trip to a convenience store turned into anything but convenient for a Lincoln man earlier in June.

"The victim had left their wallet on a display counter at Lobos City Mex and had stepped away for a short time. By the time he came back, he realized that the money that was in his wallet was missing," said Erin Spilker, Lincoln Police Officer.

The amount stolen is $1,700. Around the same time, surveillance captured a man getting out of a silver 4-door car in the parking lot.

"A thin, black male with dreadlocks wearing a black cap, tan short-sleeved button-up shirt and a white undershirt, dark pants, black and white sneakers leaves the driver's seat of the vehicle and enters the store," Spilker said.

The store surveillance camera then caught the man in the act.

"We're positive this is the person that took the money," said Spilker.

Losing $1,700 is bad enough, but it's what the victim was going to use it for that makes the story much worse.

"This victim wasn't using that money for something for himself. It was to pay for funeral expenses for his brother. Obviously, he's probably already grieving the loss of his brother and that money probably meant a lot to him so he could give his brother a proper funeral," Spilker commented.

Now police are hoping to find the criminal and give him the proper sentence.
