Fire Danger Increased by Dry, Hot Weather- Laura Berry reports

Nebraska Game and Parks has put out a list of counties and parks throughout the state where no open fires are allowed due to increased fire danger resulting from hot, dry conditions.

Steve Dolezal of Lincoln Fire and Rescue is also urging residents to be careful with anything that involves a flame, asking folks to make sure to properly dispose of cigarette butts, avoid using fire pits and keep a close eye on grills when they're in use.

Dolezal said "We're asking people anything that has an ignition of any kind to be very careful in how they use it and how they dispose of it." He adds that a simple cigarette thrown out of a car window can cause a grass fire or mulch fire.

Due to weather conditions, Nebraska Game and Parks lists the following as fire ban areas(No open fires in grills or on the ground, gas grills permitted):

Cottonwood Lake, Merritt and Smith Falls SP is under Cherry County Fire Ban.

Wildcat Hills – Scottsbluff County & Oliver Reservoir – Kimball County

Niobrara State Park – Knox County

Chadron SP in Dawes County is under a fire ban.

Medicine Creek Lake in Frontier County.

Enders Reservoir in Chase County.
