Wednesday's heat made extinguishing a blaze in Northeast Lincoln more difficult.
The call came in just before 6 p.m. to a duplex at 1022 Daybreak Circle.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue said holes had to be cut in the roof of the home to prevent more extensive damage.
Battalion Chief Eric Jones said, "That's fairly typical for us to cut a hole in the roof. It gets all of the smoke and heat out so that we can get to the fire and get the smoke out. People don't realize this but it actually decreases the amount of smoke and heat inside the house."
LFR is still investigating the cause of the blaze.
Firefighters said there were no injuries, but the residents of the home will not be able to stay there yet.
