Hastings Museum Reveals Kool-Aid Days Renovations - Rudy Mezzy Reports

Hastings' annual Kool-Aid Days are just around the corner, but this year, the folks at Hastings Museum have done some renovating to make these Kool Aid Days a little kooler.

Hastings Museum Director Becky Matticks, "A couple of years ago, we realized we needed to do something with the exhibit. It was getting worn. We've had over 300,000 people here just walking, doing hands on activities. It needed a facelift. We needed to do fresh colors, new DVDs and activities. So, we have enlarged the graphics, added more photographs."

Although some of the scenery at the museum has changed in the last 10 years, the family aspect behind Kool-Aid and Kool-Aid Days has still stayed the same.

"I think when parents are looking for things to give their parents to eat, drink, whatever you know the product hasn't changed," says Matticks. "It's got Vitamin C and it's still a good product whether your grandmother made it for your mom in the 1940's or you give it to your kids today."

Kool-Aid Inventor Edward Perkins' Great Nephew, Dave Buchholz says, "When you think of Kool-Aid, you think of childhood, you think of fun, you think of color, you think of flavor. It's about the experience, the brand experience of Kool-Aid and I think that's what really fun about this."

Edward Perkins is known in Hastings for creating Kool-Aid, but the Perkins family says they are thankful that Hastings has been able to carry on the message of:
"It doesn't matter where you're from, you can do great things," as Buchholz says.

But there is still one question: After ten months of renovations, is Hastings still the number one place for all things Kool-Aid? Oh yeah!
