Scene Video: Police Forced to Shoot Dog Following Traffic Stop
A Lincoln police officer is forced to shoot a dog after an attempted traffic stop goes wrong.
Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers attempted to a stop a truck on Vine Street. The driver of the truck would not stop.
Police later spotted the vehicle at a home in the 800 Block of North 44th Street.
Officers contacted the vehicle's owner. The man told 1011 his son was the driver of the vehicle.
While police were on scene, the man was unable to keep his dogs under control. A black lab and a pit bull escaped from the home.
The man says his lab was barking at officers. He says when the officers backed away his dogs advanced.
Police say an officer fired a shot, hitting the lab in the foot. The pit bull ran off.
The man took the lab to an emergency animal hospital.
Police weren't able to find the driver of the vehicle.
No word yet from LPD on what charges the driver may be facing.
