Junior Brooke Thomason earned the final Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award of the 2012 season, the conference announced on Monday. The award was the seventh weekly honor for a Husker this spring.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Thomason was honored for the second time this season and for the third time in her career. She helped lead Nebraska to a series win over Wisconsin, a victory that led the Huskers to a third-place finish in the final Big Ten Conference standings. Thomason had a hit in every game against the Badgers, finishing 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and three RBIs.
After going 1-for-3 in a game one loss, Thomason played a key role in Nebraska winning the next two games. She went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run double in the Huskers' 6-4, come-from-behind victory in game two. Thomason then went 2-for-2 with another double, an RBI, a walk and a run scored in a 4-1 series-clinching victory on Saturday. In addition to batting .571 in the series, Thomason reached base at a .667 clip and slugged .857.
Thomason won a pair of Big Ten Player-of-the-Week awards this season, while Ashley Guile also earned one player-of-the-week honor. In the circle, right-handers Tatum Edwards and Ashley Hagemann each earned a pair of Big Ten Pitcher-of-the-Week awards this spring.
