University of Nebraska Basketball Coach Tim Miles announced Friday that sophomore Corey Hilliard Jr. has been dismissed from the Nebraska basketball program.

The sophomore was the first to verbally commit to UNL for the 2011-2012 season.

Hilliard played in nine games for the Huskers in 2011-12, totaling nine points and two assists in 51 minutes of action.

No reason was listed for the dismissal in a press release from University of Nebraska Media Relations.

10/11 News has found two recent encounters with police, which may have been a factor in Hilliard's dismissal.

Lincoln Police Captain Jason Stille says on May 15th Hilliard was one of two men who were following a woman walking near 14th and Q Streets. Stille says the woman reported the two men were "hitting on her".

Stille says the woman picked up her pace and Hilliard ran up and took her I-phone then the two men got into a car and went north from the Wendys restaurant, towards UNL campus.

The 17-year-old driver and Hilliard were later identified as being the suspects in the robbery. Captain Stille says Hilliard was jailed for the felony on June 7th and released on June 13th. Stille said the youth was also arrested.

This isn't the only encounter with police for Hilliard in May of 2012.

Sergeant Dave Dibelka with the University of Nebraska Police said they were operating a sting operation and Hilliard took a bicycle belonging to the police department on May 21st.

According to Dibelka, officers stopped Hilliard after taking their bait bike from near the Student Union Building on UNL campus. Hilliard was cited and released for theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor.

Hilliard's next court appearance on the robbery charge is on June 29th. He is scheduled in court for the theft charge on June 25.
