Big Ten Previews: Penn State Nittany Lions

Following an off-season filled with off the field distractions, its hard to say what the Penn State season opener against the Ohio Bobcats will be like. Penn State was hit with unprecedented sanctions from the NCAA, including a $60M fine, crippling the program for at least the next ten years, and gone are the 111 wins from the record of former head coach Joe Paterno, who ranks now fifth in all-time wins on the FBS charts, as well as a ban in the Big Ten Championship game.

The Nittany Lions are banned from the postseason for 4 years, including a four-year scholarship reduction as well as a five-year probationary status for the Penn State athletic department.

Penn State has 10 returning starters from a season ago, including quarterback Matt McGloin, who threw for 1,571 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Nittany Lions finished the 2011 season with a 9-4 record, including a 6-2 mark in the Leaders Division of the Big Ten Conference.
