Stressed Out!
I cannot complain about my life.
I have a loving husband, two beautiful kids and a family I adore.
But lately it feels like I have been STRESSED OUT!
My "to do" list keeps growing - as with the number of people wanting me to do "things" and our search for a nanny continues to come up empty - and is now taking much more time and energy than we anticipated.
If anybody should know how to handle stress, you would think it would be me. I spent five years doing "Lifestyles with Serese" reports. During that time, I did several stories on how you should take care of you. But lately, even I need a refresher.
So this weekend, I did something I haven't done in months. I went and got a pedicure. I put my feet in the warm - bubbly water, sat back in the big massage chair and sipped on a cold soft drink.
Okay, it wasn't a day at the spa, but for at about 45 minutes, I wasn't worried about potty training, answering my phone, calling potential nannies or what I needed to do for my next work assignment.
It felt good.
Now, I'm back at work and back in my routine, - and I'm okay.
While a pedicure may not be the answer for everyone, it is important to do something for yourself every now and then. I think as women and mothers it's easy to take care of your kids, your spouse, look after your parents and perform on your job, but by the time it's time to do something for yourself - you're usually too worn out - and that shouldn't be.
Any mental health professional would say if you're going to be in a position to help others, you have to take care of yourself first. That's exactly why when you hear the safety instructions on a plane, they advise you (in the event something happens to the cabin pressure on the plane) to put the oxygen mask on yourself, before putting it on your child. You are much better equipped to help others once you take care of yourself. Same lesson applies in life. We just have to remember to do it.
So - give me some ideas - What do you do to take care of yourself?
Exercise?
Pamper Yourself?
Hang out with the girls?
Share!
Until next time,
Serese
