Six Years of Marital Bliss

I'm not sure if you noticed, but a few weeks ago - I took some time off.
That's because Todd and I celebrated our six year wedding anniversary.

We all went to Kansas City where we spent a few days with family - then we turned the kids over to their grandparents while Todd and I checked into a wonderful hotel right on the Country Club Plaza. It was so refreshing to have a real date night. We went out to eat at a grown up restaurant. I ordered the stuffed salmon with crab and shrimp! It was so delicious (and by the way there were no chicken nuggets in sight and no one spilled their drinks or threw their food - that's rare these days at dinner time)! After our romantic dinner we did some window shopping, and while we were taking our evening stroll - we decided to just go and see a movie. It was great to be able to be so spontaneous. We saw a light romantic comedy, went out for dessert after the movie - then headed back to our room. What a wonderful night. The next day - we did it all over again.

Oh sure, we stopped by to check on the boys - but it was good just to focus on each other and be reminded of why we fell in love in the first place and how much fun we can still have together. I believe this is called - couple time. It's sad to say - but we don't get enough of that. In fact, by the time I get home from doing the 10:00 o'clock news - Todd is usually getting ready for bed. So this time was truly needed.

Our getaway went by fast, but we enjoyed every moment
We both needed to unwind, relax and just - be...together.
And we did just that.

As we were leaving Kansas City, we couldn't help but smile as we looked at our family and thought about how our life has changed - for the better - over the last six years. Sure it was nice to be without the kids for a few days, but we were glad to have them back with us..

Then - we heard it.....bleuuaahhh! BLEUUAAAHHHH!
It was Jordan - throwing up all over the back seat!
Our romantic getaway was officially over!
Back to reality!

Tyler couldn't stop talking about how stinky it was in the back seat, Todd was less than thrilled about the mess in the back of his truck and I had the job of cleaning Jordan up in a fast food restaurant bathroom.

What a bizarre - yet fitting end to our weekend rendez-vous.
What can we say...
That's our family!
And we wouldn't have it any other way.

I do know couple time is important. But lets face it - finding the time is a challenge. How do you and yours still manage to "date" or do you?
