Parent-Teacher Conference
Today I had my first parent-teacher conference.
It was so good to be able to sit down and talk with one of the most important people in Tyler's life right now...his teacher. He talks about her all the time and even prays for her at night, so to be able to connect with her for more than just a few minutes was valuable.
And...I was able to find out some very good information - like...
Tyler has friends.
I didn't know that.
When I pick him up for school, I usually ask him what he did that day and who he played with - and he never reveals any names. So I was beginning to wonder if he was being anti-social at school. Now I know the truth. He's not. He hangs out regularly with three amigos - and they really don't do too much - just usually sit by each other at circle time and occasionally play together during free time.
Some other information, like the fact that he loves to glue and paint, was confirmed. I was also told his hand-eye coordination is fantastic...he even impresses the teachers with some of his moves on the basketball court (daddy loved to hear about that).
I was a bit surprised by one thing.
Tyler's shyness isn't getting any better.
In fact, when he gets to school - he usually spends the first 10 -maybe 15 minutes at his teacher's desk - just standing there. But she says - after that - he's good to go and has a great day.
I'm not sure what to do about that - if anything.
I know he is shy..and I think he gets a bit of that from me (really).
But he is just three-years-old and only goes to school once a week.
So - I don't think I'm going to stress about it...not yet anyway.
I'm just glad that he had a good report, is apparently a good student and a good listener. What more can you ask for at that age?
I guess this is only the beginning...right?
Do you have any interesting stories about your kids and school - or any advice for parents just getting started in the education process?
Let me know..
