The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball
announced that Sioux Falls Pheasants OF Beau Torbert and Wichita
Wingnuts RHP Adam Cowart have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
Torbert was named the 2010 American Association Player of the Year Monday in addition to earning the nod as the league’s Batter of the Week for his strong finish. Torbert recorded multiple hit games in six of his final seven contests, batting .536 (15-for-28) in the season’s final week of regular season play in addition to slugging .964. Torbert’s batting average on the season (.394) and total hits (155) both established new single-season American Association records, and he finished with exactly 100 RBI, second all-time behind Cesar Nicolas (103, Grand Prairie 2009).
Cowart finished his season strong as well, notching two victories to do his best to pitch Wichita into postseason play. Cowart fired seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just six baserunners in a 5-0 win over Fort Worth August 23rd before firing a second quality start, striking out five in seven innings in a 4-2 victory against El Paso Sunday afternoon. The 27-year-old posted a 1.29 ERA and allowed fewer than one baserunner per inning on the week. He improved to 7-7 with a 3.93 ERA on the season, and tied teammate Nick Singleton in leading the Wingnuts in victories.
