The Salvation Army Kroc Center to Open New Turf Sports Field

The Salvation Army Kroc Center is holding a ground breaking ceremony to announce construction of a new turf field that will be a significant upgrade to its outdoor sports field.

In addition, the ceremony will include the official opening of a new 5,000 square foot Locker Room facility.

These enhancements to the Kroc Center, which total approximately $1 million, will be announced on the eve of the UFL Omaha Nighthawks Mini Camp by Major Todd Thielke, senior Kroc Center officer.

Joining Major Thielke will be Michael Huyghue, UFL Commissioner, Joe Moglia, Omaha Nighthawks head coach and Rick Mueller, UFL Omaha Nighthawks general manager, and local dignitaries.

Both the Locker Room and the turf field upgrade were made possible by partial financial support from the UFL and the Omaha Nighthawks.

The new turf field will serve the professional level needs of the Omaha Nighthawks football team and enable an expansion of Kroc Center sports programming for both kids and adults.

Upon completion, which is scheduled for mid July, the field will be similar in quality to the NFL New England Patriots field.

The new turf field will be able to be used virtually non-stop on a daily basis whereas the previous grass field could only handle limited wear and tear.

The turf field will be used for UFL Omaha Nighthawks team practices and will make possible additional Kroc Center soccer, football, flag football leagues and open field play for kids.

As the Training Center for the UFL Omaha Nighthawks, the Kroc Center is home for team practices as well as team meetings, training and meals.

The new Locker Room will be used by the Omaha Nighthawks and going forward, will give the Kroc Center expanded opportunities to offer additional basketball leagues as well host tournaments for indoor sports.

"On behalf of kids and families from across Omaha who enjoy the Kroc Center, I want to thank the UFL and the Omaha Nighthawks for helping make the new turf field and Locker Room possible," said Major Todd Thielke, senior Kroc Center officer. "Thanks to their generosity, the Kroc Center will be able to effectively serve the Nighthawks and offer a variety of new sports activities in the years to come."
