Martin Kaymer has won the PGA Championship in a three-hole playoff that did not include Dustin Johnson, who was penalized two strokes for grounding his club in a bunker on the last hole.
Johnson had a one-shot lead playing the final hole at Whistling Straits when he drove into one, a tiny patch of sand where the gallery had been walking all week. Johnson grounded his club, unaware he was in the sand.
He missed a 7-foot par putt to seemingly slip into a three-man playoff with Kaymer and Bubba Watson. But the two-shot penalty sent him into a tie for fifth. As he was leaving the course, Kaymer was coming up clutch again.
