The Michigan State Spartans finished the 2011 season with an 11-3 overall record and a berth in the Big Ten Championship game against the Wisconsin Badgers, which ended in a 42-39 loss for the Spartans. Michigan State was able to bounce back in the Outback Bowl against Georgia in a 33-30 overtime win. The three losses for the Spartans came to Notre Dame, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
The Spartans must replace quarterback Kirk Cousins, who threw for over 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns a season ago.
Michigan State opens the 2012 season against national contender Boise State. The other non-conference games include Central Michigan, Notre Dame and Eastern Michigan. The Spartans open Big Ten play September 29 against Ohio State and then travel to Indiana. Michigan State closes the month of October with games against Iowa and then two games on the road against Michigan and Wisconsin.
Michigan State plays Nebraska on November 3.
