The Iowa Hawkeyes finished the 2011 season with a 7-6 record following a loss to Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl. The Hawkeyes went 4-4 in the Big Ten last season and look to improve on the mark with 40 players returning (19 – offense, 18 – defense, 3 – special teams).
James Vandenberg returns for his senior season in Iowa City following throwing for 3,022 yards and 25 touchdowns a year ago. While Vandenberg returns, the Hawkeyes lost running back Marcus Coker. Coker ran for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns. Iowa also lost Marvin McNutt, the top wide receiver for the Hawkeyes, who caught 82 passes for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
Iowa’s non-conference schedule includes games against Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Central Michigan. The Hawkeyes open the conference season against Minnesota, road games against Michigan State, Northwestern and Michigan.
The Heroes Game between Iowa and Nebraska is set for November 23 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
