There’s a new head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes – and his name is a familiar one for all of college football, Urban Meyer. Meyer takes over the program from Luke Fickell who served in an interim basis during the 2011 season following the resignation of Jim Tressel. Fickell is now in charge of the Ohio State defense. Urban Meyer is no stranger to the college football world. Previously, he served for 10 years at the University of Florida, compiling a 104-23 record. Meyer took a season off and then was hired as the head coach of the Buckeyes this Spring.
Ohio State has 18 returning starters from a year ago, including quarterbacks Braxton Miller and Joe Bauserman. Miller threw for over 1,100 yards last season and 13 touchdowns. Ohio State finished the 2011 season with a 6-7 record, and a 3-5 record in the Big Ten Conference. Key wins for the Buckeyes last season came against Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, before losing their last four games of the season.
Ohio State opens the non-conference slate with Miami (OH) before hosting Central Florida, California and UAB before taking to the road at East Lansing to face Michigan State to begin Big Ten play.
Nebraska travels to Columbus to face Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes on October 6.
