PARIS (AP) -- Moments after his rain-interrupted French Open
final against Rafael Nadal resumed Monday, Novak Djokovic netted a
forehand and punished himself by smacking his racket strings
against the side of his head three times.
A day earlier, Djokovic cracked his racket against his green
sideline bench, sending a piece of the furniture flying.
Bidding to become the first man since 1969 to win four
consecutive Grand Slam championships, the No. 1-seeded Djokovic
instead wound up one victory shy, frustrated and beaten by Nadal
6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the two-day title match at Roland Garros.
Djokovic said he was happy to reach his first final at the
French Open but "disappointed about this loss."
