Oklahoma won Game 1 of the NCAA Women's College World Series, beating South Florida 5-1 at Hall of Fame Stadium Thursday afternoon.
South Florida struck first in the fourth inning, plating an unearned run from pinch runner Courtney Goff on Kourtney Salvarola's single to right center.
Lauren Chamberlain answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run blast through gusting winds over center field. It was the freshman's 28th home run of the season, extending her OU single-season record.
Chamberlain mashed a double in her next at-bat in the sixth and Keilani Ricketts followed with an RBI-triple, a hit kept in the park by 30 mile-per-hour gusts from the north.
Three batters later, Brianna Turang slapped a single to center field that plated Jessica Shults.
Following Turang's USF changed pitchers for a third time in the inning. Sam Greiner hit Katie Norris to load the bases and then lost an 0-2 count on a walk on pinch hitter Brittany Williams to give the Sooners their final run.
The Sooners will face the winner of Game 2, California or LSU, Friday at 6 p.m. Central. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
