Wednesday marked the turning of a new leaf for York County, as Candace Dick assumed the role of the new York County Attorney.
Embroiled for months in the recall of previous county attorney Bill Sutter, the matter was settled with the certification of December 20th election returns in which the recall was put to voters.
Sutter's critics accused him of "inappropriate behavior" and "inadequate performance of duties," accusations which he denied.
New County Attorney Candace Dick brings her experience as deputy county attorney to the position. Chosen from an original field of ten candidates, she was appointed by the York County Board of Commissioners at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, and sworn in the afternoon.
York County residents like Brandi Stebbins did not hold fond memories of her predecessor: "I heard that he let a lot of child abuse cases go, just basically let the parents off easy. I didn't agree with that, so I'm glad they let him go."
Christopher Walla concurred: "I heard that people don't like the guy, and you know if people don't like somebody, they can't stay in office. I mean, that's usually how it works because, they're voted in and, well, votes count against you, you don't stay."
Candace Dick hopes her swearing in will put this troublesome chapter behind the people of York County: "I think it's time to move forward, we're looking forward to that. We're happy to move on. Hopefully, one of my biggest goals is to keep us out of the news. So we're going to move forward, do our job, and just keep our heads down."
