In a town that has seen plenty of football success, the Aurora Huskies are trying something new.
"Football is a big deal around here, but we're gonna try and change that and make basketball a big thing too," said senior Trey Allen.
The winners of the B-5 district, the Huskies will head to Lincoln for a chance to bring home a Class-B State Title.
An accomplishment the town saw on the gridiron in 2008 and 2009.
"A lot of these guys did it in baseball and football and track and field so this was an opportunity to prove they can make it to state in basketball too," said Huskies Head Coach Rick Bell.
"It means a lot. We've been playing together since 5th grade," said Allen, "It was our main goal since we were little kids and it's where we're going."
It is Aurora's first trip to state since 6 foot 10 Center David McDonald and his teammates cheered on Aurora's last state competitor in 2006.
"I grew up watching them and I think that was really something special too, you know, I was them. I watched them go to the semis but hopefully we can get passed that and go to the state championship."
Players like Allen hope fans take notice of the Huskies play this season
And maybe to see some more backboards in neighborhood driveways.
"Right now I'd say they're more around football, cause we've been good at football," he said. "But once they see us, we'll catch their eye they'll start liking it more."
"We have a real great town, Aurora's special," said McDonald. "We're leaving our own little legacy here. We've had success in football and basketball and our goals are to bring home a state championship right now."
