The Crane Trust will be selling about 1,200 acres of mostly cropland and some pasture land at a public auction set for May 15.
Crane Trust President and CEO Chuck Cooper says the trust bought the
land as an investment to be either sold or traded for property that fits its mission.
The nonprofit group protects habitat for whooping cranes, sandhill cranes and other birds in the Big Bend Region of the Platte River Valley.
The sale of the land comes at a time when cropland is selling at record prices.
Cooper says the trust owns about 10,000 acres along a 60-mile
stretch of the Platte River Valley.
