The 125th anniversary of the Grand Island Veterans Home was commemorated with a service and mementos of yesteryear.
125 years ago, Nebraska lawmakers made it a priority to take care of injured veterans, and they established the State Soldiers' Home.
The anniversary was commemorated with a service at the Veterans Home All Faiths Chapel.
Women's Relief Corps members dressed up in period garb, and the United Veterans Color Guard was on hand.
Veterans displayed vintage uniforms and showed off their old weapons.
Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy: "We've been providing services to our veterans here for now 125 years. And so today really is a day when we're beginning to kick off a number of events to recognize the service that the employees and also this home has provided to our veterans over those years going, dating all the way back to the Civil War."
After the ceremony, the Veterans Home offered tours of the historic facility.
