Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman says his $327 million tax cut plan will ease the tax burden on the state's middle class.

One of the more controversial aspects of the tax cut is the repeal of the state inheritance tax.

Governor Heineman says that most Nebraskans are paying too much in taxes. Senator Abbie Cornett of Omaha ,who co-authored the bill, said that it's time to repeal the "death tax."

LB 970 focuses on lowering individual and corporate taxes. It also calls for an end to the inheritance tax.

Paul Marsh of the Dodge County Board of Supervisors opposed the bill. He says ending the inheritance tax means that counties will need to find other ways to fund programs. He adds that the loss of the inheritance tax funds to counties will likely be made up by an increase in property taxes.
