Current Hall County CodeRED users and others interested in this new weather warning system are encouraged to register for the new warnings through the Grand Island-Hall County Alert by clicking HERE.

For questions or assistance, contact the Emergency Management Department at (308)385-5360.

Hall County residents and businesses registered for the CodeRED weather warning system will soon lose this service as the Grand Island-Hall County Emergency Management Department is switching to a new phone alert service.

The new phone alert service is called Grand Island-Hall County Alert and will be effective on Friday, June 1.

Like CodeRED, Grand Island-Hall County Alert also features an automatic weather warning alert, but current Hall County CodeRED users must re-register to maintain phone weather alerts. The Emergency Management Department will broadcast this message by phone on Wednesday, May 30, around the lunch hour. This message will serve as a reminder to weather warning customers, as well as all Hall County landlines, of the upcoming system change.

The Emergency Management Department announced on May 25 that it will be changing providers for its phone warning and notification system to a collaborative contract with the State of Nebraska and Twenty First Century Communications.

“We have been very pleased with the service we received from our CodeRED warning tools,” stated Jon Rosenlund, director of Emergency Management. “However, in order to meet budget constraints, we made the decision to join with the State of Nebraska and share in this more affordable telephone warning system. This new contract provides us with similar tools at a lower total price per year.”

Hall County and city agencies will still have the capability of sending tailored voice, text or email messages in case of disaster, emergency, or life threatening conditions. However, residents and businesses who previously registered for the CodeRED weather warning service will no longer receive CodeRED calls after May 31.

Current Hall County CodeRED users and others interested in this new weather warning system are encouraged to register for the new warnings through the Grand Island-Hall County Alert by going online to www.grand-island.com/alert. Simply register online and select the types of automatic weather warnings interested in receiving. For assistance, contact the Emergency Management Department at beready@grand-island.com or call 308-385-5360.
