Gas prices are the lowest they've been in a while...
"It's actually kind of a nice break after three plus dollars a gallon. When it gets down below $3, you actually think you're getting a deal," said Rodger Hammond, a Grand Island driver.
AAA reports demand for fuel is down nearly 10% due to a few different factors. One of those is the increased popularity of hybrid vehicles. A car sales person says fuel economy is always a top concern for buyers, but he says many customers don't want to compromise size and power.
"It's a topic of conversation every time we discuss with a customer the purchase of a vehicle. There's been a huge increase of sale in cross-over sport utility vehicles, almost as good of mileage as a four-door sedan but yet your able to carry more people," said Sam Reynolds, Dinsdale GMC.
Because drivers are choosing cars with better fuel economy, many people aren't filling up as often. According to AAA, drivers with a 15 gallon tank who fill up with ethanol over unleaded will save $13.50 each time they fill up.
SUV driver Rodger Hammond says he's not convinced of the trade-off.
"I can't justify the cost of the hybrid versus the price of the gas, not at this time anyway," said Hammond.
