Incumbents in Nebraska's legislative races are holding solid leads in the primary election.
Returns Tuesday night show the sitting lawmakers are in first place in all but two of the races featuring incumbents.
Two incumbent lawmakers, Sen. Brenda Council of Omaha and Sen. Paul Lambert of Plattsmouth, are in second place but still appear likely to advance to the general election.
Council faces former Omaha Sen. Ernie Chambers, who was the state's longest-serving lawmaker until term limits forced him from office in 2009. Lambert, a gubernatorial appointee, is locked in a six-person race to represent his southeast Nebraska district.
The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November. The one-house, 49-member Legislature is officially nonpartisan, so candidates aren't identified by party labels on the
ballot.
