You may remember when we brought you a story about Hall County Supervisor Gary Quandt's initial request for a jail task force, but unlike the last time the issue was brought up, there was no debate today.
Quandt was previously very adamant about the need for a jail task force - a group comprised of outside law enforcement and county officials who could also make decisions about the jail, but that desire seemed quite absent at the meeting.
During the meeting, when the issue was addressed, Quandt said, "Talking with the other law enforcement agencies and there's not a need for the jail task force at this time."
Hall County Supervisor Pamela E. Lancaster reiterated," Fred [Ruiz] is the director and administrator, and his decisions to run the corrections facility and to maintain his staff is as he sees fit."
The request initially arose due to the incident concerning a misconduct with Assistant Corrections Director Jimmy Vann. We tried to contact Mr. Quandt for comment but he did not immediately return our calls.
Supervisors made it clear that corrections staff will be handling all incidents internally.
