Kearney High senior Isaac Brown committed to a school 13-hundred miles from Kearney this week. But he won't feel that far from the good life this fall.
"It feels like home," Brown said.
Like home because Brown knows his coach well.
Former Nebraska quarterback and coach Turner Gill is entering his second season at Liberty University.
"I think the whole state knows Turner Gill and what he means - the integrity, the honesty - and the kind of person he is," Todd Brown, Isaac's father, said.
Todd was a receiver too. He played alongside Gill at Nebraska and again in the CFL for the Alouettes.
"We got a bond there as men, and getting to know each other - it was just a wonderful experience," Todd Brown said.
"It feels really special," Isaac said. "It feels more like home, having my dad play. And being around all these ex-Husker players or ex-coaches."
The Liberty coaching staff also includes former N-U quarterback Joe Dailey. Todd says Isaac will get a "Nebraska experience by some Nebraska guys."
"Although Virginia's a long ways away, it seems like we're sending him to family," Todd said.
That, and Brown's faith played a big role in choosing the world's largest Christian university.
"Everything was just so perfect from that aspect," Isaac said. "All the coaches have a great faith basis."
Brown's family plans to be at every game, to see their son and an old friend too.
