A Kearney man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for having sex with an underage girl, whose baby he fathered.
24-year-old Ryan Peterson was convicted in February of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Peterson was originally charged with first-degree sexual assault of the girl, who was younger than 16 at the time they had sex. It is against Nebraska law for someone older than 19 to have sex with
someone under 16.
His charge was reduced, and he was also given18 months' probation.
In December 2010, the girl reported that she was pregnant with
Peterson's child. Police say Peterson denied having contact with the girl, but after the girl had her baby, genetic testing showed Peterson was the father.
