Kearney Public Schools’ Bright Futures Preschool has been awarded grant funds from the Nebraska Department of Education’s Early Childhood Education program to offer a new full day preschool class at KPS Bright Futures Preschool (located at the Kearney Education Center).
This will serve eighteen 4-year-olds from across the Kearney community. Students are selected based on poverty, second language, and other needs.
The grant will provide $75,000 per year for 3 years ($225,000 total) to cover a teacher’s salary, para professional, field trips, staff development, family engagement, and supplies.
The school will receive an extra $25,000 to cover start-up expenses (playground equipment, technology, and minor facility modifications). The 3-year grant total will be $250,000. After 3 years, KPS will receive a per pupil portion of state aid for each 4 year old preschool student served.
