A local organization celebrated St. Patrick's Day by asking the community to be its lucky charm.
They relied not only on luck, but generous shoppers.
Grand Island's Community Youth Council spent the holiday asking for a little green.
"We really like the giving trees around Christmas time, but since it's St. Patricks Day we decided to do a little bit different spin on it," Community Youth Council Service Committee Project Chair Anna Scarborough said. "We got a list of items that they need in their organizations, then we wrote them on shamrocks and are hanging them on our tree."
Those items are things like canned vegetables and cleaning products, that only cost a few dollars but go to help three organizations in the community.
The non-profit groups that the drive benefitted are Grand Island's crisis center, backpack program and Project Hunger.
Even young shoppers took part.
William and Jadynn Keller picked canned fruit ornaments off the tree.
They hope it goes to kids their age who are in need.
"I just hope that they can eat healthy with all the fruit and veggies," Willliam Keller said.
Scarborough says so far, the drive has been successful.
"Pretty good, pretty good," she said. "We're hoping to get some more, but we got some good turnout."
