A Wood River man has been sentenced to 18 months of probation for a boating accident that killed two North Carolina teens.

41-year-old Brian Packer was sentenced Friday in Sherman County District Court. Judge Karin Noakes made Packer subject to random drug and alcohol testing and ordered him not driving a boat for six months. Failure to comply could land Packer in jail.

Packer pleaded no contest in November to a misdemeanor charge of operating a boat while drunk. In exchange, the state dismissed two manslaughter charges.

Authorities say Packer was drunk on July 3, 2011, when he hit two brothers on a tube at Sherman Reservoir. The crash killed 12-year-old Joshua Rowley and 19-year-old Matthew McAlexander, both of Kernersville, N.C.
