Nearly 7,000 acres of brush in north-central Nebraska have burned after a planned fire grew out of control on Wednesday.
The fire southwest of Mullen is under control now. The fire burned an area that's about a half mile south of the south fork of the Dismal River.
he prescribed burn began around 10:30 a.m. Mountain Wednesday,
but quickly spread.
he Mullen fire department was called around noon, and at the
fire's height 20 fire departments were involved in fighting the
fire.
The blaze was contained around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No buildings were destroyed in the fire, and all of the land
affected is privately owned.
