Michael Calvert
Central Community College has named a new president for its campus in Grand Island.
Mike Calvert, the dean of humanities and social science at Butler Community College in Kansas, will begin his new job on August 6.
Calvert will replace outgoing president Lynn Black, who is retiring after 31 years with Central Community College.
The newspaper says Calvert has been a strong advocate of community college partnerships with K-12 school districts and private industry. He arrives in the midst of the college's plans to create a Career Pathways Institute, along with Grand Island Public schools and local businesses. The program will let high school juniors take career and vocational courses before they graduate.
