From the City of Kearney:

The City of Kearney Engineering Division announces that weather permitting 5th Avenue from North Railroad Street to 25th Street will be closed beginning Monday, March 19, 2012.

The purpose of the closure is for the complete removal of the existing asphalt street, water and sewer upgrades, and new pavement construction.

These improvements will upgrade roadway conditions, drainage, and bring the intersection crossings in compliance with the current American Disabilities Act Requirements.

East-West traffic on 22nd Street will be maintained during a majority of the construction project.

At times this intersection will be temporarily closed for utility crossing and pavement removal/replacement. East-West traffic will also be maintained on North Railroad Street. All other East-West intersections will be closed for the duration of the project.

It is anticipated that all improvements associated with the 5th Avenue reconstruction will be completed by September 2012.
