Relatives of a 2-year-old Gering girl who died in 2008 are circulating a petition to have a grand jury investigate her death.
Juliette Geurts died on July 11, 2008. An autopsy showed she died of blunt-force trauma to the head and abdomen. No arrests have
been made in her death, and Scotts Bluff County Attorney Doug Warner says the case is under investigation.
Warner said in 2008 that the girl's mother, Charyse Geurts, was
among three suspects in the case.
The girl's aunt Monica Hall says the extended family is concerned that the suspects, including Charyse Geurts, haven't been prosecuted. They'll begin circulating a petition Saturday in hopes of gathering 1,200 signatures in the next 90 days.
Nebraska is among six states that allow grand juries to convene by petition.
