The National Weather Service is warning of extreme fire danger in central and south-central Nebraska.
The weather service says the grassland fire danger index "will be in the extreme category" Wednesday afternoon.
The area includes Adams, Buffalo, Dawson, Franklin, Furnas, Gosper, Hall, Harland, Howard, Kearney, Phelps, Sherman and Webster counties.
On Tuesday, fire danger warnings were issued for about two-thirds of the state because of dry conditions.
Among several fires reported in the state was one that blackened about 720 acres south of St. Paul in Howard County.
