Effective Sunday, 12-23-12, at 10:00 PM the Grand Island Police Department will start towing vehicles from city streets that are in violation of City Ordinance 22-99.

It is unlawful for any person to park any vehicle or to permit such vehicle to stand at one location upon the streets or upon any public “free parking” lot for a period longer than seventy-two hours.

The Police Department will begin to issue warning tow notices on Friday, 12-21-12, at 10:00 PM to be placed on vehicles that are obviously “snow bound” and in violation of the seventy-two hour parking ordinance. This is something new this year that the Police Department has enacted to give vehicle owners more advanced notice that their vehicles are subject to tow and need to be cleared of snow and driven. There isn’t a fine associated with the warning tow notices; however if vehicles aren’t cleared and moved by the Sunday evening time restriction then vehicle owners are subject to paying a parking ticket, tow charge, impound fee, and storage fee.

Effective Thursday, 12-20-12, at 7:00 PM the Grand Island Street Department will begin snow removal in the downtown area. City Code 22-112 restricts vehicles from parking on certain streets in the downtown area between the hours of 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, from October 15 through April 15th, during the time frame of facilitating the removal of snow from the streets.
