The National Weather Service says a late winter storm brought heavy snow to northern Nebraska and a tornado to west-central Nebraska's Logan County on Tuesday.
NWS Officials said its Nebraska's first tornado in the month of February. It was reported in a field southwest of Stapleton.
"Someone who checked our records couldn't find any record that showed one had occurred in Nebraska going back all the way, you know the records going back to the 1800s whether that is 1870s or whatever, but 130 years or more," said Kenny Roberg, North Platte Weather Service Office.
Roberg said the only damage reported is an overturned center pivot three miles west of Stapleton.
Pea-size hail and heavy rain pelted the area around Mullen,
which is 40 miles north-northwest of Stapleton. The weather service says up to 8 inches of snow fell in a band from Gordon east to Ainsworth.
