Sen. Ben Nelson says the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has selected a site for a new national veterans cemetery in eastern Nebraska and an announcement is expected by the end of the month.
The Nebraska Democrat says he received an update on the Sarpy County National Veterans Cemetery during a committee meeting on Thursday.
Nelson says the VA can't identify the site because it's still working on a final purchase price.
Nelson also asked about progress on renovating the aging Omaha VA Medical Center. He was assured by VA Secretary Eric Shinseki that the project is a priority and much of the campus will be replaced. The design will be completed in 2013, with construction anticipated in 2014, depending on the overall budget.
