Grand Island's busy Broadwell Avenue was closed for a time at 14th Street Wednesday night as police served an arrest warrant.
Andrew Esquitin, 23, was arrested at a home at 1332 North Broadwell Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Captain Kerry Mehlin said Esquitin was wanted on multiple felonies, including receiving stolen property and operating a vehicle to avoid arrest.
Mehlin said the department's Tactical Response Team was called after Esquitin told officers he had a gun and fled to the basement of the house.
It had not been determined whether Esquitin did have a weapon as of about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, according to Mehlin.
He said the incident ended peacefully and there were no injuries.
Esquitin was recently released from jail after serving time charges stemming from the multi-agency crackdown code-named "Operation Pier Pressure".
